Rodent Control in the Riverina
Over the last couple of weeks we have had an increase in the number of calls coming in from all across the Riverina requesting our assistance in the control of rodents.
This is a result of the local climate getting a bit cooler. Rats and mice are warm blooded mammals, and just like humans, they don’t like to be out in the cold.
What they will do, this time of year and through winter is start to find warmer places to live so that they can continue their rapid breeding cycle and get close to your food and water sources.
We recently had a call from a client of ours in Wagga who had been hearing scratching noises in the walls and in the roof for a couple of weeks.
Why bother with rodent control?
When our technician arrived he had a look around and found that rats had actually caused a bit of damage to the property. They had chewed through the floor boards in the living room to gain access into the home.
Rats and mice are well known for being carriers and spreaders of diseases. When you have rodents in your home, you have the risk of diseases and damage to your property to worry about.
Chewing through floors, walls and bins is one thing but chewing through electrical wires as you can see below, can and from time to time does start fires or can cause electrocution.
Rodents always need to gnaw on surfaces be it timber, plastic or whatever so their teeth stay at a size where they can function properly.
If a rodent stops gnawing, their teeth will keep growing and eventually they won’t be able to use them properly.
How Amalgamated Pest Control can help with rodent control
Our technicians will always conduct a thorough inspection when dealing with a rodent issue on a property.
It’s important that we understand exactly what they are doing within the structure.
It’s important to know their travel routes, where their food and water sources are.
With this information we can implement a rodent management program specific to the property and rodent activity on the property. Conducting a thorough inspection also gives us the opportunity to find damage such as the electrical wire pictured.
In this case, an electrician was contacted to replace the damaged wire.
With this particular home, there was quite a bit of activity. With careful planning, and a good understanding of exactly what was happening in the home we were able to set up a good rodent management system with the right amount of follow-up visits to ensure that this property became rat free.
